College Admissions Questions Answered by Gainesville State College Admissions Officer »
Section: College Admissions
Q:  Why was the Scholastic Aptitude Test scoring scale changed from a possible total of 1600 to 2400? This has baffled me ever since the change took place.
A:  I can only answer questions about our SAT requirements for our college, and students are not required to submit SAT/ACT test scores.
  • Students that have official SAT or official ACT scores may submit those scores and exempt placement testing if they meet Gainesville State College's minimum requirements and meet the 16 CPC unit requirements:  SAT English (now Critical Reading) 480 and Math 460 or ACT English 21 and Math 19.  Only nationally administered SAT/ACT scores will be accepted.  Test scores must come directly from the issuing agency or on an official high school transcript.  Photocopies of score reports will not be accepted.

For questions concerning SAT scale, please see the SAT college board at www.collegeboard.com.

Q:  In terms of aptitude tests for entrance, which test do most colleges prefer: the ACT or the SAT? Are there any other tests that colleges and universities look for?
A:

In 2008 Board of Regents and University System of Georgia voted to extend by three years a pilot admissions policy that, when first implemented in fall 2005, removed standardized tests as a criteria for admission to the USG's two-year and state colleges. With this action, however, the USG's state colleges now have the option to resume requiring SAT/ACT scores for applicants seeking four-year baccalaureate degrees.

SAT/ACT scores are not required for admissions at Gainesville State College. Students that have official SAT or ACT scores may submit them and exempt placement testing if they have 16 CPC unit requirements and meet GSC's minimum test requirements: SAT Critical Reading 480 and Math 460 or ACT English 21 and Math 19. Only nationally administered SAT/ACT scores will be accepted. See requirements for admissions at www.gsc.edu/admissions/requirements
